-Mike Johnson Park info, firsts-
Mike Johnson Park in Georgetown, South Carolina defines the word ‘nostalgic.’ The ‘Discover Georgetown’ website states, “Originally calledGeorgetown County Stadium, Mike Johnson Park is a classic sports venue that is still in use today. It was originally built in the late 1800’s for both baseball and football. The earliest recorded games were in 1896, and it reportedly hosted a semi-pro team in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Winyah and Howard high schools both used the stadium for football and baseball until the schools were combined in 1982 to form Georgetown High School.”
With an unfathomable amount of games to take place at the historic stadium, one brand had yet to put it’s product on the field. And tonight, that all changed. For the first time in history, the Diamond Prospects Fall League took the field as the gracious Bulldog hosts were set to take on the Grand Strand Thumpers.
The paper mill scent and sunny skies accompanied the first pitch at truly special place to kick off Year 2 of the Grand Strand Fall League.
