Year number fifteen of the Diamond Prospects Upstate Fall League got underway this week and our staff hit the ground running each night covering talent from all over the Upstate area. This year’s edition of the league features 65 teams and 49 different high school programs make up the rosters. Per usual, kicking off league play can be challenging but reflecting on the start of this year's league has been much smoother than usual. This is a testament to our coaches, players and parents who assist in preparation. A huge thank you goes out to them as now all there is left to do is play ball!
After a wet weekend, there was a threat of play not kicking off Monday but we were fortunate to get underway and we elected to travel to Christ Church on Opening Day as they hosted the Upcountry Warriors. Tuesday led us down to Wright Middle School (Home of Abbeville baseball) to see the Lakeland Panthers and the Maroon Rams (Westside) in a doubleheader. Also on Tuesday, we set up shop at Dorman HS to see the Cavs play host to the Centurions (Broome) and our friends from the Midlands, the Midlands Eagles (Chapin). To close out the week, we doubled up and caught four games at JB Red Owens in Easley, SC that featured: Green Wave, Razorbacks 1 & 2, Blue Flame, Bobcats, Wildcats 1 & 2 and the Greenville Hurricanes. Also, we posted up behind the backstop at Eastside HS to see the Eagles host a doubleheader versus the Warriors of Riverside. As you can see, it was a busy week that led to us laying eyes on twenty two teams in week one!
